This marionette of a drunk was designed around 1940 by the graphic artist Jan Benda. It is made of quality original materials.
In the case of the sale of this puppet, we dedicate half of the amount collected to the development of PUP - Puppet University Prague
It is a great honor for us to present you this comical marionette. It is completely carved from wood and decorated with a beautiful jacket with metal buttons. This fellow's nose is big and swollen to entertain the audience as much as possible. His shoes are also made of wood, although they create the perfect illusion of fabric. Notice also his rich mustache and beautiful shirt with embroidery.
Jan Benda (1897-1967) was a Czech graphic artist, draftsman and later a puppeteer. After being wounded on the Italian front, he was employed at the Archaeological Institute in Prague. He then began working with various Czech puppeteers to design and process marionettes, which he also modeled. Some of his marionette designs were processed by the company of the Czech carver Josef Kalous.
My 17 year old daughter absolutely adores Annie! As she said, “Shes not just a doll—shes a work of art!” This is an exquisite marionette. Obviously made with great artistry and attention to detail. Beyond lovely!
