This marionette of a drunk was designed around 1940 by the graphic artist Jan Benda. It is made of quality original materials.
In the case of the sale of this puppet, we dedicate half of the amount collected to the development of PUP - Puppet University Prague
It is a great honor for us to present you this comical marionette. It is completely carved from wood and decorated with a beautiful jacket with metal buttons. This fellow's nose is big and swollen to entertain the audience as much as possible. His shoes are also made of wood, although they create the perfect illusion of fabric. Notice also his rich mustache and beautiful shirt with embroidery.
Jan Benda (1897-1967) was a Czech graphic artist, draftsman and later a puppeteer. After being wounded on the Italian front, he was employed at the Archaeological Institute in Prague. He then began working with various Czech puppeteers to design and process marionettes, which he also modeled. Some of his marionette designs were processed by the company of the Czech carver Josef Kalous.
I loved this shop. The puppets are magnificent. Such exceptional craftsmanship! If you're looking for a gift of similar quality, you're sure to find what you're looking for.
The girl who helped us was absolutely lovely. She also explained that they ship, so we'll definitely be placing an order, as we don't have room for anything else in our suitcase. The shop is quite large for a puppet store, and it has a great variety: we found all kinds of puppets, as they specialize exclusively in them. The prices also seemed quite reasonable. In short, a highly recommended place if you're looking for a beautiful, high-quality puppet as a souvenir from Prague.
Absolutely wonderful, better than expected.. a very talented puppet creator. Very pleased
