Antique Devil marionette in perfect condition

This beautiful devil is a very original marionette. Not only does he have a detailed face, he also has carved teeth and a movable jaw. Instead of one leg, he has a hoof and he is wearing a beautiful coat with fur around his neck. His leg is strewn with hair and he also has an interesting haircut carved from wood.

Štěpán Zálešák

Štěpán Zálešák (1874] - 1945) was a Czech sculptor and carver. He specialized mainly in sacred art, he also devoted himself to restoration work. His works adorn many Czech churches (St. Vitus Cathedral). In 1898–1912 he worked in his own studio in Prague, most of his marionettes come from this period. In 1912 he began teaching carving and sculpture at the School of Applied Arts.
