Antique marionette Girl in a beautiful dress

One of the marionettes from this puppeteer's workshop is this beautiful girl. Her precisely hand-carved hair and face are made of wood, as is the rest of her body. Notice her beautiful dress with a satin ribbon and black lace that complement her tender look. Beautiful brown eyes seem to look directly into your soul.

Josef Allesy

Josef Allesy (1810-1894), born Gianpiero Alessi, is of Italian descent. He came to Bohemia around 1830 and worked there as a carver and conservator in churches. His marionettes were extremely anatomically elaborated with very good mobility and in the second half of the 19th century they gained extraordinary popularity with many Czech puppeteers.
